How does the US car import calculator work?
Our advanced calculator for the cost of bringing a car from the USA to Poland (or other European countries) accounts for all the necessary customs, tax and logistics fees. A database integrated with the system lets us instantly match logistics costs from the farthest corners of the United States straight from the auction houses Copart, IAAI, or Manheim.
Customs and Tax Charges from the USA
- Duty: The standard rate on passenger cars is 10%. For commercial vehicles (e.g. pickups) it's 22%. Classic cars (over 30 years old) are exempt from duty (0%).
- Excise: Depends on engine displacement. Up to 2,000 cc it's 3.1%, above 2,000 cc it's 18.6%. Electric (EV) and hydrogen cars are exempt from excise (0%).
- VAT: The rate depends on the chosen port of clearance. Clearance at the port of Rotterdam (Netherlands) is usually 21% VAT, in Bremerhaven (Germany) 19% VAT, while after direct delivery to Polish we pay 23% VAT. Classic cars are subject to a preferential rate (respectively: 9% NL, 7% DE, 8% PL).
City Database System and Logistics Costs
To make the calculation easier, we built an intelligent autocomplete search based on the file cities.json. Just type the name of a lot (e.g. Manheim New Jersey), and the system will fill in the current average cost of inland transport to the shipping port and the price of ocean freight in a container. Of course, for any non-standard order you can edit every cost field manually.
